They were making missile launchers for the government. There were many, many stages to the manufacturing and assembly process, followed by various levels of inspections. The final government inspector walked around the completed launcher, insuring there were no smudges, fingerprints or scratches anywhere. For what they were paying for this thing, it needed to be perfect.
The moment it was put
into service, the soldiers climbed on it with their combat boots, dragged it through
dirt, mud and bramble, slammed into it with various gear and equipment and once
fired, the special government paint was scorched beyond recognition.
Thank Heaven there weren’t
any fingerprints from the factory workers.
