It wasn't always like this

There was a time when everything worked.  It all functioned as it should.  Instructions that came with a product made sense and were easy to follow.  Items you purchased from a store did exactly what was advertised.  Sometimes the package said, batteries included, but when they weren’t, it said so right on the package.  Batteries not included.

The fine print was a short statement; it didn’t fill up the back of the packaging and took 20 minutes to read.  There was a 1-800 phone number on the package, in case you had a question or a problem, and a real person answered when you called.

Time and progress have changed all of that.  Missing parts have become expected.  Instructions are now translations from a foreign language and never make any sense.  Customer service is an automated loop that never leads to a person or an answer to your question.  And the package itself has become quite large so it can accommodate the warning label.
