...but not forgotten

Sarah

Little did we know that before we moved here there were two pelicans on the lake.  As the neighbors described it, they were a loving pair and always together.  They never left each other’s side.  The neighborhood had even named them, Walter and Sarah.  There are tons of pictures of them filling the walls of the clubhouse.

It was hurricane Jeanne, 2004 that took the life of Walter, who was unable to find adequate shelter.   Ever since then, Sarah has never left their spot, as if she is still waiting for his return.  It is such a sad thing to see.

Walter (RIP)

For a while there was talk of trying to locate a second pelican to keep Sarah company, but nobody knew how to go about doing that, or what actually would be involved.  Florida’s Natural Resources management had no suggestions and was not at all helpful.

I believe there are some candidates in Cedar Key that would fill the "Bill".

It has been quite a while since Walter disappeared and I think Sarah is just happy where she is at.......or she would have found a mate.
