Top of the Food Chain

I saw this old movie once called The Incredible Shrinking Man.  For its time the special effects were good.  Everything looked very believable.  While I was thinking about the challenges the shrunken man had to deal with, I looked around the room and tried to imagine the same things I was seeing but now looking at them as if I were very tiny.

This simple stack of coasters, if I had to climb up the side, might prove to be quite a challenge.  The scary version, of course, would be discovering what might crawl out from between them.

Then there was, Honey I Shrunk the Kids.  The thought of being that small and also being outside, yikes!

I guess the reason we're comfortable at the size we are is because things bigger than us are easy to spot ahead of time.  Whales live in the ocean, so just stay out of the water.  Elephants have peanut breath, so the minute you smell peanuts, run the other way.

So far, Hollywood has only shown aliens as being taller than us, but what if actual aliens turn out to be bigger than whales or elephants?  Not feeling so smug now, are you?
