A friend of ours gave us a
clipping off of a nice-looking plant. He
said they grow like crazy, in either full sun or shade, it doesn't seem to
matter.
When we got home, we put the
clipping in a bucket of water, with plans to plant it the next day. In the morning, after our coffee, I went out
and got a shovel and a small bag of potting soil.
We found what we thought was
the perfect spot to plant the shrub. The
third time I sunk the shovel into the ground and brought up a shovel full I
noticed movement along the side of the hole I had just dug.
At first glance I thought I had
disturbed a pocket of worms, but the closer I looked, the more I realized they
were not worms at all, but little fingers.
They weren't just wiggling like worms, it's like they were grabbing at
the dirt to cover themselves back up.
And it wasn't just a little movement, it was as if they were panicking,
and now I could see a thumb.
The above diary entries are all
that remains. The family, as we all now
know, was among the first humans harvested by the aliens. Small clippings were taken from humans and
mixed with what could be described as a kind of Miracle Grow, then planted in
mostly rural areas, to be harvested once ripe.
It’s been noted that the best way to tell the young, unripe ones, is
that they are still a little green behind the ears.
