It was time to gather the
grapes. Yes, harvest time had finally
come. Collett Petersen was excited. She had landed a job at the vineyard and now
could earn enough money to get the bicycle she had seen in town.
She arrived at work early and
began picking as many grapes as she could.
When they started to get too heavy for her to carry, she stashed them
behind the old tractor in the barn. For
hours she picked and picked, and each time added them to the great pile she had
created.
Meanwhile, none of the other
workers having noticed her, thought she had not shown up for work, so they
thought nothing more about it. The
entire vineyard was abuzz with activity.
It wasn’t until the following
morning Collett awoke to discover she had fallen asleep against the giant
wheel of the tractor and was now going to be late for school.
It was knee-deep into October
when Collett’s boss discovered the large pile of spoiled grapes behind the old
tractor. He couldn’t believe his eyes.
“How could this have happened?” he muttered, but fortunately for him, his son-in-law, Massy Ferguson had an idea. It took some time, but they finally remembered the young girl they had hired and they tracked her down.
They would use her to advertise a
brand-new product. In fact, they had her
school picture modified and used it on their packaging. The following year they bought her a new bicycle.
