Maybe in the rafters

“It’s in the back of the closet.”

I don’t see it.

“Well then, look downstairs, maybe it is down there.”

I already looked down there.

“Well, I don’t know then.  You’ll just have to look around.”

Have you ever gotten so busy with the daily routine that your actual life gets lost in the shuffle?  On a recent trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake we caught a glimpse of the life we once had.

Through a random set of circumstances, we found ourselves at a cast party, sipping wine, enjoying a variety of delightful little sandwiches and watching as various cast members once again, took center stage.  This time, however, it was in the back room of the Buttery Restaurant.

A troupe of performers from Toronto, comprised of people from Russia, Poland and the far reaches of Hamville took turns singing popular songs from Vienna.  One lady, who now resides at Niagara-on-the-Lake played the violin.  Several years ago she escaped from Poland to come here.  She has shared the stage with great performers like Pavarotti.  Never before have I heard such beautiful music.

Quietly driving home along the Queen’s Highway, making our way back to the states, I thought about the life we had in San Diego.  We and our friends went to parties, fancy restaurants, nightclubs, and still found time to cut the grass and floss.

Today, the weather channel seems to be the highlight of our existence.  Don’t get me wrong, we still get to cut the grass, but where our actual life has gone… well I’m not sure.

Maybe I’ll check the garage.
