Now - with Rain Water

They never question who fills it

The Racoons find it full each night

they drink and wash their hands

leave footprints when they go

The Possums drink more than they should

considering they’re far from home

The Crows balance themselves on the rim

they squawk at their achievement

proud at such an accomplishment

The Squirrels, with their dainty sips

always skittish and quick to leave

with never a Thank You.

The neighborhood cat

walks past, nose and tail in the air

couldn’t care less.
