I would think it rude if in my attempt to enter Heaven someone closed the door in my face, as if I were some used car salesman, or a door-to-door poet.
I might have to take stock of myself and ask just what it is I did to provoke such behavior. Was I somehow bad in this life? Did I chew gum and not bring enough for everyone? Perhaps there was some notation on my permanent record I was unaware of.
Come to think of it, I have never seen my permanent record. Does it really exist, or were all those teachers lying to me? They were adults, they wouldn’t knowingly spread falsehoods. Or would they?
Adults are the ones in charge of
teaching us right from wrong, and yet… politicians seem to cross the line every
time they speak. How can this be? Do I need to take a closer look at the true definition
of adulthood?
1. Having
reached a certain age. 2. Able to think
for themselves and make rational decisions. 3. Knowing the difference between
right and wrong. (OK, we’ll put a pin in
#3 for now) 4. No longer require a fake ID.
5. Not living at home with their parents. 6. Not being rude when a traveling poet comes to the door. 7. Can safely operate a
motor vehicle. 8. Can dress themselves. 9. Sets a good example for others. 10. Always
has extra gum with them.
Except for that rational decision thing, I think I qualify.
