It was a quiet Saturday
morning. We had nothing scheduled and no
plans of going anywhere. That’s when,
out of the blue, she says, “I’m getting tired of looking at that fringe. I think I’ll cut it off.”
That was three weeks ago. Today we are back at Bob’s Carpet World, sitting across from Julie as she flips, once again, through the big book of floor coverings, and once again says, “Tell me again, why you cut the fringe off? That was an $18,000.00 Oriental carpet, hand died and shipped here by the Shah of Scurambii, for his bride. It should have never been sold. Tell me again how you came to have it?”
“We just happen to be on Randall
Street, when we noticed this rolled up rug fall from the back of a truck. We honked at the driver, but he didn’t seem
to hear us. Anyway, we couldn’t just
leave it in the road, possibly causing an accident, so we tossed it across the
front of the car. We rolled our windows down
and she reached out and held on to one end and I reached out and held the
other, so it wouldn’t slide off. It was
awkward but I drove home using only one hand on the steering wheel. Once home, we just rolled it out in the family
room and there it stayed. We had no idea
that cutting the fringe off would cause the entire rug to unravel. We’ve saved all the threads, if someone would
be interested in weaving it back together.”
