I Had A 50 - 50 Chance

Larry had made me promise that I wouldn’t let them put him on life support, but by the time I got to his room everything had already been connected.

I located the main box and pried the cover open.  My problem was – both patients in the room were hooked up.  I couldn’t just shut the main box down, I had to figure out if Larry

was in bed (A) or bed (B).

It wasn’t readily apparent.

T.O.D. 20:18

        They had called everyone’s name

The nurses had checked the sign-in sheet
and yet he waited

The staff was itching to call it a day
some of the Doctor’s had already gone
yet he waited

“Someone needs to go out there,
ask his name – who is he here to see?"

Lights in the rest of the building were being
turned out

The annoying background music had run its course
and the silence was now eerie

        Aggravation taking hold -
Mary entered the waiting room

“Excuse me Sir, did you have an appointment?”

No answer came – no acknowledgement
for his waiting had also run its course

We believe what the author is talking about here is the cold isolation that awaits us all.  Each of us unable to catch the second hand, failing to decipher the scribbled note we find in the bottom of our coat pocket, yet knowing it is somehow important.

Well I don't think that's what he's saying at all.
I believe its an indictment of our society's excessive
use of Post-it notes.  Each of us abandoning our own
cognitive ability and relying too much on external media.
The less self reliant each of us becomes the more likely
we are to fall through the cracks like this poor chump did.

"I just found it depressing.  Also, I like it better
when there's pictures.
I'd like to see a picture of the note found in the pocket.

I should also add that after years of using Post-its
I discovered there really isn't any need to lick them first."

The Photo Shoot

It was to no one’s advantage that we were there, in fact we shouldn’t have been.  I’m guessing people don’t really believe in a spirit world until they are actually surrounded by them.  Trust me; it’s a feeling unlike any other.  I’m not talking a warm and fuzzy feeling.  I’m thinking it would be like accidently walking into a local grocery store on the non-tourist side of the island.  Without a word you instantly know you are not wanted, you shouldn’t be there and where’s the closest exit?

Much of it, I assume, depends upon your state of mind; you can either let it get to you and scare yourself silly, or you can rationalize it and keep telling yourself you are simply standing in a cemetery, surrounded by headstones.  The sun is out, there is a nice summer breeze and all you’re there to do is take a few pictures.

Here’s the thing; when Randy and I returned at the end of the day and developed our film we saw a lady in one of the shots.  She was just standing there.

Neither of us saw her nor felt any spirit world heebie-jeebies.  Only after developing the film were we able to see her standing there.

This photo has not been altered.

After seeing this picture - we went back to the cemetery.
The name on he headstone was, Myra Maines

The word: Disappeared

has gone missing.

My first inclination is to blame Hollywood, movies, television writers and the lot.
That's all we ever hear any more, "So & so has gone missing", "This or that went
missing".  Whatever happened to just saying, "Disappeared"?
Is it really that difficult?
