Frankly, I think I was already old when I was born. I seemed to have missed out on a lot simply by already knowing better. No matter what it was, I just knew not to do it.
I can see it now, in the faces of others. The ones who have gone through it. They have a look about them. I can’t explain it better than that. They fully understand the stove is hot, and the wall is too high to get over and they know from touching and attempting to climb.
I could look at something or a situation and just know, this isn’t going to end well. I can’t really say it was wisdom, for my lack of wisdom was always obvious. It was like I had read Life’s Manual before my first birthday and retained much of it.
But just as that is apparent to me, so is the reality that if you set me in front of an exam I will fail miserably. It’s the same with directions, if there is a wrong way to go, I’ll pick it every time.
I
wouldn’t call that a gift or talent, it’s just something I’ve understood about
myself. None of that, by the way, can be
cured or corrected over time. You can
trust me on that.
