We are all chess pieces. Only a handful move diagonally. They are good with math and science, while
others have business sense, buying up two blocks down and one over.
We all struggle moving through
our day, never knowing when, for us, the game will be over. We like to think the king and queen are
special, living on Castle Row, but mostly, they’re just like us, plotting along
one day at a time.
Retired pawns seem to be a
mixture of those who miss the game and those happy it’s over. Living now on the sidelines they switch to Pinnacle,
Canasta or Pickle Ball. They have traded
in meeting at the water-cooler, for hanging out at the hostess stand, waiting
for the early bird. Of course, the ones
who miss the game still talk about the board.
Their education and paycheck had become the biggest part of who they
were. The rest just listen, waiting for
them to catch up to reality.
“Shut-up and deal.”
