Although a Mahogany Shuttle would look rather sharp

 

The tiniest sliver can feel like a log and can stop you from doing anything else but focus on its removal.  Your system views it as a foreign body invading it and so it sends loud signals to your brain to pay attention to this, above all else.

I expect this is why they do not make rocket ships out of wood.  Astronauts have enough to deal with, they certainly don’t need to get a sliver while floating around the capsule.

Also, the very edge of the booster rockets could become scorched and may be difficult to extinguish.
