The day's sermon was on patience

It was at the bottom of the collection plate.  There was no way to tell who had left it behind, but there was one stranger sitting with the congregation.  She looked well dressed and had not spoken with anyone.  From what the pastor knew of his parishioners, none of them could afford to donate a coin to the church that was valued at $58,000.00, which this one was.

He didn’t want to embarrass anyone by asking who had done it, but he also wanted to thank them and give them praise for such generosity.  He just needed to think of how to do it.  He glanced over towards the organist with an expression suggesting he could use a little help.

Margret shrugged and gently shook her head no, as she kept playing.  She was reaching the end of the piece and it would be his turn to speak to the congregation.  He stood at the podium, closed the Bible and looked out over the faces.  The music stopped and his pause became slightly uncomfortable.   Finally, with a genuine smile he said,  “Thank you.” and then he waited…
