Admitting it was the first step

Imagine a book with a different story on every page.  How exciting would that be?  Simply turn the page and you’re onto a completely different adventure. It would be like a log of someone’s activity, in fact I wouldn’t even call it a book, I’d call it a Blog.  Yes.  It would be a Blog.  Something ever changing, new and exciting every time you looked at it.  And better yet, it would be free.  Wow!

But who?  Who would write such a thing?  Who, in their right mind, would spend their life entertaining people they’ve never met, and probably never will, and do it all for free?

Okay, here’s the thing.  It’s an obsession.  What can I say?  I got hooked at an early age.   Someone in the neighborhood gave me some nouns and verbs and several consonants and said I could have them for free.  They said I could make whatever I wanted out of them.  Right away I started building sentences.  It wasn’t long after that I had a stack of paragraphs in my bedroom.  They were under the bed, piled up in the closet and spilling out into the hall.  There were several Mason jars along my window ledge filled with punctuation.  I knew I had a problem.

That was some 50 years ago.  Today, no one around here really knows.  I can walk down the street without a care.  I look normal.  I dress in everyday clothes, and have a handful of friends.  No one’s the wiser.   I can go in and out of stores just like a normal person.

Anyone passing my house might catch a glimpse of the jars sitting on my window ledge, but I doubt they can see what’s in them.
