A Change of Address Card

There are homeless on the sidewalk

homeless in the park,

I see them in the light of day

I hear them in the dark,

In doorways they are sleeping

at airports, on the floor,

On corners holding up their signs

asking us for more,

There’s apathy in Washington

with budget for their rockets

and greedy politicians

who only line their pockets,

For entrance into Heaven

there’s space for you and me

unless your prior address

is Washington, DC.

Author's Note:
This is not an anti-government statement.
It is an observation.
