They are the
sounds of stopping. An airplane landing
on the runway sends a loud screeching of tires into the quiet
surroundings. A locomotive reaching the
station drags metal against metal piercing eardrums and shaking windows. The early-morning coffee maker spits and
sputters to a steamy end, and yet the quiet ending of this paragraph speaks
volumes of deflated anticipation.
