The Three Sisters

I purchased the Three Sisters back in 1980.  They were in a curious little shop in Cheboygan, Michigan.  I remember, there was a grumpy, old man behind the counter.  He was inspecting a coin he had bought when he was in New Orleans.  I though it was cool at the time, I had never before seen a magnifying glass with a bult-in light.

Anyway, these containers, he said, were called The Three Sisters.  He would only sell them as a set.  I didn’t really want all three, but he wouldn’t budge.  It was three or nothing. Then he told me the story behind them.  After hearing the story, I understood why all three had to stay together.

It took some time for him to get through the entire story.  Several customers came and went during the telling of the story.  Only one customer lingered to hear the end of the adventure.   That customer looked at me and said that if I didn’t buy them he would.

I’m still not sure if that customer was a friend of the shopkeeper, just setting me up, or if he was really interested in the containers.  Either way, it didn’t matter, I bought all three, as you can see.

Having owned them now for the past 45 years, I can tell you the story was true.  Each one has very special and unique abilities.   Without going into the entire adventure, I can tell you, the short round one contains a very fragrant powder, whose scent greatly affects your dreams.

The taller one contains some kind of elixir, with properties, that when inhaled through the nose, advance your healing system.  Even a slight cut finger mends itself almost while you’re looking at it.  I have no idea how that could possibly work, but it does.

The jug sporting the feather is the most amazing of them all, but I cannot reveal what happens without sounding like a complete lunatic.  Suffice it to say, I got more than my money’s worth.

Before leaving the shop I snapped a picture of his New Orleans coin.
