Berwicks

 

Having been left in space far longer than scheduled, everyone was focused on their mental and physical health when they finally did return to earth.  It has been speculated that it was that focus that drew all attention away from the alien passengers who had affixed themselves to the interior walls of the flex chamber.

It remains unclear how they survived the journey while in that chamber, but it quickly became apparent they were meat eaters, with a propensity for humans.

By comparison, they looked like cockroaches.  They were extremely quick, unafraid of anything and grew to the size of Volkswagen beetles.  Mankind was no longer the dominant creature on the planet.  The most advanced pesticides had no effect.  They were called Berwicks, once it was discovered the commander of the space mission, Colonel Berwick, knew they had gotten into the chamber before heading back to earth.
