What began as just a bit of fun, somehow has evolved
into a sanity hearing. It started when I
got the idea that it might be fun to see what animals wander through the yard
while I was sleeping.
To that end, I purchased a few night-vision cameras and
placed them around the yard. It was fun,
at first, when, the following morning I watched, on my television, what the
cameras had filmed during the night.
After only a few days, I began to feel the need to feed the
little critters, who were spending all their time searching for something to
eat, so I started scattering Rice Krispies around. They really liked those. When that was gone, I moved onto stale bread
and old vegetables from the refrigerator.
Eventually, I was cooking up healthy meals for them. There were racoons, possums and deer, and one
black and white house cat, probably one of the neighbor’s cats.
As my grocery bill grew, as did my time spent in the kitchen,
so did the concern of the other residents in the home. People were treating me like I had gone off
the rails, or something. Many simply
avoided me.
I believe the final straw was when I was sitting out in the
courtyard, enjoying a little sun, when one of the racoons walked up and sat
down in front of me. I have never before
seen them come out during the day, but here it was, looking at me like it was
waiting for more food. It seemed to know
I was the one who had been putting the food out at night. It didn’t look threatening or like it had
rabies, it just looked at me, like it was ready for breakfast and what was I
waiting for.
I’m living at Apple Apartments now. It’s a nice place and nobody is signing any
petitions to have me move out.
But give them time…

If you feed them - they will come....and demand more it seems!
