I discovered a glitch.
It was in the change machine at the end of the hall. Anyone needing change could put their dollars
into the slot, the machine’s internal workings would gurgle and click and then
spit out the correct change.
I always carry several two-dollar bills with me. Whenever I leave one for a tip the person
receiving it always seems so surprised and happy. Just to see what this change machine would
do. I slipped a two-dollar bill into the
slot. The machine gurgled and clicked
and then spit out two, one-dollar bills, but then it spit the two back out. For whatever reason, it knew the value and
gave the correct change, but it didn’t know what to do with the bill itself.
This was amazing. If I
were a crook, I could stand here and keep feeding the same two-dollar bill into
the machine and run the thing dry.
