The Rest of the Story

 

Right at the very edge of the universe, floats a small plastic egg.  Somehow the egg escaped earth’s gravitational pull and has never stopped traveling.

Inside the egg is a manufactured substance called Silly-putty.  On earth, back in the 60’s, it was used as a child’s toy.  It is pliable, very elastic and when pressed against a color cartoon on paper, the picture becomes transferred onto the putty.  The putty can be used over and over again.

What the government never disclosed was that its original purpose was to capture sound waves.  One egg has the capability of absorbing years of sound transmissions.  It was only released to the general public as a toy when one of the NASA engineers had brought it home and his child discovered it.  The government saw this as a way to recoup some of the manufacturing costs.

Unknown to most people, the retrieval of this escaped egg was the real cause of the space race between Russia and the United States.  The Moon was never the real destination.
