It isn't about the odds of winning. We all know it is a losing proposition. You've spent your money and now its gone. Boo-hoo
But here's the thing, it is about those brief few seconds that a tiny sliver of hope asks, what would you do with it, because anything is possible. For the amount of fun those few seconds bring, $2.00 seems a small price.
You've jumped from the plane but haven't yet pulled open your chute. You are free-falling through the sky, taking in the view, feeling the wind rip past you and your excitement is off the charts. It's only when that last number is scratched off that you feel the tug of the chute snapping you back to reality.
Your feet slam back onto the world that still full of schedules, deadlines and payments due. You're not a winner and the ride has ended. You roll up the chute, tuck it under your arm and as you walk away you take one last look back at the Lotto ticket laying in the trash.
"Maybe I should check it one last time."
