As we sat at our favorite pub, enjoying a refreshing beverage, speaking of many things, from the cost of everything, to the future of Mankind, I couldn't help but notice the outlet on the ceiling.
What possibly could it be for? Surely the blades of the fan would chop the electric cord as it hung from the outlet and being on the ceiling like that it couldn't be for a toaster or vacuum cleaner.
No one I know would plug in a nightlight into a ceiling. They would have to be 12 feet tall to reach it in order to turn it on and off.
I doubt anyone would set up a Christmas tree under a fan, so it can't be for Christmas lights.
We tried to think of other things requiring electricity. We came up with nothing that involved an elevation like this.
At last-call, we still had not figured out what function this outlet could serve. We agreed it needed more thinking and that we'd better come back again tomorrow to try to solve this mystery.
That was six years ago and we've not solved it yet, but we haven't given up.
