When I’m the only one in the car,
I play Led Zeppelin and Iron Butterfly.
The volume is a little higher than normal. Even though I’m moving forward, I’m farther
back than I’d care to admit. Stairway to
Heaven and Hey Jude are my top favorites, even though I appreciate and enjoy
most music from the 60’s.
It is that slice of time that I
keep in my pocket. It’s the one thing I
can hold onto that doesn’t get slipped into the vending machine or scribbled
on, as if it were some bar napkin. It
isn’t cumbersome and yet has great weight to it. It has become my frame of reference whenever engaged
in conversation.
Even if the technology that
allows this music to be played goes away, the music remains. It is at the heart of almost every boomer.
