It wasn’t your typical high-speed
chase. In fact, had the bank robbers
dressed better they would have gotten away with it.
Only by chance, was a funeral
procession traveling along Brooks Avenue when the robbers pulled their car away
from the bank. Instead, however, of
heading for the freeway, their driver, Darrell Sparks, of Oak Park, squeezed
into the funeral line and clicked on his headlights. They left the area going a leisurely 12 miles
an hour.
Only one patrolman responding to
the alarm decided to follow the line of cars to the cemetery. The only ones arrested at graveside were the
ones wearing jeans and hoodies.
