Close to the Edge

From here I sit and think about life.  I think about the earth and it's current condition.  I think about the night sky and all the possibilities of things unseen.

Sitting close to the edge like this gives me a feeling of potential; things that could happen, should the norm somehow get out of whack.

I can see the neighbor's across the lake.  I've never met them, and know nothing about them, yet there they are -
sitting across the lake from me,
perhaps looking up at the night sky and wondering...
maybe thinking about life.

Then a mosquito lands on my arm.  I swat at it,
and go back in the house.

Maybe if that hadn't happened
I could have thought of something great.
You never know -
I was so close to the edge.
