"...now it looks as though they're here to stay...

(Your country here) has distorted its history books to reflect positively upon their own particular culture.  They crank the children through an educational press - squeezing out acceptable replicas in hopes of keeping civil disobedience to a minimum, all the while downgrading media news to nothing more than topics of fashion and gossip; they reduce TV programming to an endless stream of ads, interrupted by laugh track sitcoms.  Books have been replaced with electronics, food stuffed with additives and artificial flavors and colors, and health care has fallen to greedy corporations, overseen by a pathetic government that puts itself ahead of its citizens.

So what exactly am I getting at…

This Blog is the last remaining refuge of yesterday.  To all of you who look to the past with a deep and desperate longing; to all who remember right from wrong, good from bad and how yesterday was in fact fun, and filled with intelligence, humor and promise; it is to all of you that I write these blatherings.   I truly believe that in this moronic society there is no better time than now to waste time itself.  Yes, you heard me right.  What have you got to lose?   There is nothing worthwhile out there for you, so get yourself a snack, settle back and enjoy this blog.

It’s the closest thing to yesterday there is.

You’re welcome.

Shot of a Lifetime

As many of you know, I carry a camera with me just in case I come across something that I feel I could use on my blog.  For the most part I stay away from the usual pictures of landscapes, sunsets, and morning dew rising from a pond or lake.  Not that those things aren't nice to look at, it’s just not my style.

I was really glad I had my camera with me last week.  I was up north and trying to quietly walk through the woods in hopes of maybe getting a couple pictures of wildlife, or odd looking mushrooms or something.   I've seen fox and of course deer and some things from a great distance that I wasn't sure what they were, but what I saw this time was amazing.  If I simply came back and told you about it you’d never believe me.  At first I didn't even believe it myself and I was right there.

The moment I saw it I froze.  I didn't want to make a sound.  I had not even put on after-shave that morning, knowing how acute the sense of smell is in most animals.  Very slowly I raised my camera and I was terrified that the click of the camera would give me away but it didn't.

My position was perfect and with my zoom lens I was able to make it look as if I were standing much closer than I was.

There is one person in this photo, and I saw or heard no one else around.  They stood like this for the entire time I was there.  In fact they were still standing like that when I left.  I doubt they ever knew I was there.

Needless to say, I didn't interrupt them to ask what in the world they were doing, nor did I ask them to sign a release form so I could use this photo.  I just snapped the picture and as quietly as possible made my escape.

If you know this person or have any idea what they were doing, please let me know.  To this day I've not been able to make sense out of it.

Thank you

The Storage Shed

The police said there was nothing illegal about what she had in there, but the media had a field day and the story stayed in the news for several days.  Her husband was completely devastated and moved out.  One reporter said he had filed for a divorce and had moved in with a brother out in Montana

She would not come out of the main house for comment or even answer her phone.  Eventually the reporters gave up and most of the community lost interest.

That was two years ago.  Having just moved to this state I had heard nothing about all of that and because I bought the old woman’s house in foreclosure there was never an inspection.  She was long gone and the bank was only interested in getting their money back.

When I saw this shed at the back of the lot - I though it looked pretty cool.  It actually still looked new and looked like a good place to store lawn equipment or whatever needed to be kept out of the weather, but as I headed across the clearing to check it out I noticed a few of the neighbors watching me.  I thought I saw a couple of them take a step back, as if something terrible was going to come running out if I opened the doors.

By the time I had gotten close enough to snap this picture all of the neighbors had ducked back into their houses.

Now I was really anxious to see what was in there.

but don't listen to it

What you might see is that others have gone before you, they have cleared a path and constructed sturdy sides to keep you safe.

What you can’t see is that the path leads down below the swamp, away from daylight and out of the warm breeze.  In just a matter of feet you find yourself far beneath the world of darting dragonflies; well below the water beetles, snakes and biting flies and into darkness that is both void of handrails and familiar faces.

There is nothing you could carry that would be of use.  Your mind will be your tour guide, your courage is the only thing that will keep you moving and the voice in your head – the one telling you to turn around and go back will be the only sound.

riding shotgun in the sky -

turning into butterflies above our Nation."
