What it Means

In Europe, when you reach the end of your working life, they say you are redundant.  (No longer useful)

In America it’s called retirement, but it’s the same thing.

Some are happy to reach retirement, others – not so much.

Those who were productive at work will miss the feel of achieving something.  Just getting something done gives them a feeling of accomplishment.

Others will miss the office gossip, the birthday cake and office parties, the daily interaction with others and the cat & mouse games with the boss.  (Here he comes, look busy)

For me, I miss writing the underground newsletter.  It wasn’t anything related to the job or the company.  It was just a fun, goofy newspaper I did once a month, for the entertainment of all those who didn’t concern themselves with accomplishments.  I wrote it on my time but availed myself of their copy machine.  I didn’t think they’d mind.

It was quite popular with the borderline employees and the deadwood, as they were referred to by upper management.  Middle management must have known about it, yet never said anything.  I think they enjoyed my humor.

Now my underground newspaper is called a Blog.  I haven’t retired from that, only from the company.

By the way, I’m still waiting for my retirement party.

I’m just saying…
