North Divot

It was over several months that we watched North Lake disappear. There was no fanfare, no announcement, it just sadly dried up.  The turtles that once climbed up onto the dead trees to bask in the sun, now only had to stand there in the mud.  Birds, somehow knowing the fish were gone, abandoned their flyovers and dives.  Now they just sat and watched from the trees along the bank, as the water slowly left.  They had to wonder what was going on.

Once a selling point for the neighborhood, now was posing a challenge for realtors.  How would they put a positive spin on this massive crater?  Maybe it was a site where some alien craft had landed.  Surely a new name was needed.  Certainly not large enough to be considered a valley, but greater than a divot.  But wait, the place was swarming with golfers, why not North Divot?
