The Junk Drawer

It doesn’t seem right that we should call it a junk drawer.  It holds all the little things that are not necessarily pocket worthy yet still hold a value which prevents them from traveling that extra three feet to the waste basket.  “I don’t need this right now but maybe later.”

I’ve not come up with an alternative name for it, but it seems there’s one out there someplace.  What would you call it, if not junk drawer?  Maybe a House Pocket.  No, that’s stupid.  Just leave it at Junk Drawer, everyone already knows what you mean and is familiar with it.  Why change it?

Maybe we could name everything found in it and then take one letter from each item and create a name out of those letters.

Old pens that skip

Scissors that clip

Tape with its handy dispenser,

An eraser not new

A pencil #2

A ruler to mark where you went-sir,

A Magnifying glass

With a light – oh-so clever

And postage that isn’t forever,

A bright colored Post-it

A Pop-tart not toasted

and ants…OK, those shouldn’t be here.
