Backyard Picnic Table

 

Squirrels enjoy the pumpkin seeds

it's salt they like the most,

Racoons prefer the ham and eggs

but sometimes, just French Toast,

Possums and the humming birds

do nothing but complain,

Wild hogs and turkeys

are partial to whole grains.

Chipmunks wouldn’t eat the rolls

its butter they demanded –

Flies enjoy potato salad

its right where they all landed.

This isn’t just some fairytale

or silly children’s fable

just once a year we feed our friends

on the backyard picnic table.
