The phrase, the ball is in your court, suggests you are
currently the one in control. You have
all the options.
When the waitress asks, “Do you need change?” she is really saying,
“Quick, pass me the ball, I’ve got a clear shot.”
You currently still have control, but now the power has
shifted. Under pressure, are you to say,
“No, just keep it.” or do you spin around, do a quick flip behind your back and
tighten your grip? “Yes, I need change.”
But now you feel you’ve let the team down. Annoyed and grumbling, the waitress needs to
make another walk back to your table with your change.
A loud buzzer announces the end of the game. People stand and start to leave. There is a napkin on the floor, dishes and
silverware are a mess, the owner is already weighing his losses against his wins.
The hum from the neon sign out front stops as the glow clicks
off. The parking lot empties out while
the clang and clatter from back in the kitchen continues. Randy
eyes the massive mound of dishes still left to wash as he thinks of someday
being on the open road, far from glasses, mugs and bits of today’s special.

On the road again
I just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is making music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again!
