It sounded different.
Everything else up to this point had gone fine. The check-in process, getting through TSA was
annoying but okay. Normally I prefer an
aisle seat but here by the window was just fine. Flight attendants had not yet come by with
their carts. It was all normal, but then I heard a different sound coming from
the engine suspended just below the wing.
I had a clear view and saw nothing out of the ordinary, but I knew that
sound was wrong.
Having worked for years on jet engines I knew my way
around. The question is, do I say
anything to alert the crew, or just sit here like a crash-test dummy and say
nothing. I certainly couldn’t afford to
let other passengers hear my concerns.
That wouldn’t be good for anyone. Even the flight attendants may think I’m some
kind of kook, move me to the back of the plane in restraints.
The more I listened to the sound of that engine, the more
worried I became. I don’t think I can
just sit here and say nothing but where does my responsibility begin? I cannot consider just myself, but everyone on this plane and all those down below we could potentially crash on. But what are the odds these flight attendants are going to take me seriously?
