Smell drifted - in my nose

Squishy rug - beneath my toes

I think it must be morning.

 

Letter came - addressed to me

Return address - was from D.C.

Looked official - as could be

I bet you it’s a warning.

 

Claimed my taxes - showed up late

Late fees added - were not great

Such a notice - so abrupt

I think I’ll have another cup

of               coffee.
