Just standing on the train platform made me nervous. I was familiar with the speed the train passes through, the loud rumble that runs alongside and the wind, that can easily topple an elderly person without ever noticing. There was something else in the air this morning, however, I didn't know what, but something.
Across the tracks, on the
opposite platform, someone’s grandmother was having difficulty controlling the
rather large dog at the end of a leash.
Perhaps she is meeting her grandson and thought bringing the boy’s dog
to the welcoming party was a good idea.
No one around her seemed to be
stepping closer to lend her assistance.
I’m guessing none of them cared to have dog hair on their business
clothes, or maybe get bitten. Just that
second, I realized she was on the wrong side.
That side was for departures.
Everyone there was heading into the city. She should be over here, but now was not the
time to yell out. The board over the
office window was already lit, announcing the approaching train.
