Better sooner than later

 

I prefer my accolades be fresh

delivered still in date,

nothing posthumous is best

that seems a tad too late.

No metals after I am toast

give flowers to the living

no snarky comments at my roast

give praise to those still giving.

Timing, as it’s always been

is better right on cue

for once I am around the bend

there isn’t much to do.
