Mitsi liked everything about her new house with the exception
of the bright red fire hydrant in her front yard. She thought it was ugly and detracted from
the beauty of her home, so the first thing she did was plant large bushes
around it. That didn’t even last a
month. The fire chief made her dig them
up, informing her that it was unsafe to hide a fire hydrant.
The following month she painted it green to match her
lawn. This time the fire chief issued
her a $30.00 fine and told her to paint it red the way it was. She did but she wasn’t happy about it.
The following year, Mitsi tried to hire a contractor to
relocate the hydrant, but the contractor not only refused but informed the fire
chief of what Mitsi was attempting to do.
That resulted in Mitsi getting a strongly worded letter, indicating that
legal action would be taken if anything at all happened to that hydrant.
Over time, Mitsi finally got what she wanted. She and the fire chief were married at Saint
Bartholomew’s church. Up and down the
street in front of the church, large red fire trucks were parked. As the married couple left the church, they
walked under an arch of streaming water, shooting from two of the trucks.
Police and firemen were everywhere, celebrating the eventful
day. There were long tables in the
firehouse, filled with potluck dishes.
There were children and balloons and even a banner stretched across the
drive, announcing the marriage.
As the chief stood explaining to one child about the importance of being able to spot where the fire hydrants are from a distance, he smiled and mumbled, "Anyone else would have seen this coming a mile away."

Nice! A Hallmark ending.
