His Playful Side

I had lots of time last night to think about God’s plan.  It seems he knew that by tilting the earth at 23.4° and keeping gravity at a constant, all of the oak trees surrounding my house would plunk their acorns onto my roof in such an odd and off-beat pattern that sleep would be impossible.

Thunk, bounce roll.  Thump, thump, thump… sometimes it sounded like a handful all at once:  thump-thump, thwack, thump-thump roll…

Occasionally there would be a rim shot off the gutter… Ping!

They don’t tell you these things in church.  I’ve never heard a sermon talking about His playful side, but you can tell – some of the older parishioners know.  You can see them every now and then, casually glancing around, your eyes meet…they nod.

They know.
