Living with Random

There are no drugs for this and no cure that we know of.  It seems an unfortunate part of life.  A traffic cop is going to pull someone over, while ignoring everyone else.  Someone will hit the Lotto numbers, while millions of others won’t even be close.

Even if you keep telling yourself that there is a reason for everything, trust me, there isn’t.  Mankind has been plagued by random throughout eternity.  You’ll never see people taking up donations to fight this dreaded thing, there won’t be any telethons begging for money so a cure can be found.  For the most part, it’s been accepted that it is just a part of life.

Technology has not even tried to confront it, for it has infested that world as well.  This algorithm was getting close, but then suddenly went sideways.  That computer program, designed to study random sent the entire department into the blue screen of death.

All of these trees grew at the same time, in the same climate, and each with similar root systems, and yet this one has fallen over.  Why?

Could there really be larger issues at work here?  Returning home from Linda's house, her friend, Mary heard her phone ding.  Not wanting to miss something important, she takes her phone from her purse and proceeds to check for the new message.  Unfortunately, she did not look up in time and consequently tripped over this tree, sending her glasses flying and her ankle snapping like a stale pretzel in a bowl of other stale pretzels.

Was this destined to happen all along?  Was this fate pushing Mary and the handsome young podiatrist together? Some of you out there might think so, but that goes against this whole thing I've just written about random.  Now, how do think that makes me feel?

        "Stupid, stupid tree."

This is a real conundrum!
