Alone

Let my lonely heart just sleep
my friend lies quiet on the hill,
how can I dance under the sun
while he’s is there inside death’s chill.

The wind still hums his favorite song,
silence wraps the notes in pain,
each echo feels like somethings gone
a hollow cry that falls like rain.

I walk the path we used to tread,
the trees remember every sound,
but now the leaves just whisper dread
while grief grows heavy all around.

So let the world keep spinning fast,
I’ll sit and watch the shadows grow,
for friendship forged in moments past
still warms me though I sadly know.

Gather stones and place your fence
wrap in silence all we see,
My friend, although is in past tense
remembers and now waits for me.
