Let me stop you there, Jake Wilson.  I’m not interested.  I never buy anything over the phone and I’m not interested in winning any trips.  I don’t travel, I don’t need any steak knives and no, this is not my lucky day.

“But you haven’t even heard about the exciting, new…”

Look, Jake, I’m sure you’re a nice guy and you’re just trying to make a living, but like I said, I’m not interested.  In fact, if you are interested, I have a great, little lawn mower for sale.  It is top of the line and works great.  What do you say?  I bet you could use a nice lawn mower.

“How much is it?  Is it gas or electric?”

It’s electric, Jake.  No need to buy gas or oil or any of that stuff.  Just plug it in and off you go.

“How much?”

Its on sale this week for $125.50 Maybe you’ve seen our ad?

“Your ad?  Are you telling me this isn’t Louie Coznik?”

No Jake, you called Miller Power Mowers, on Wakefield Avenue.

Long pause.

 

“OK, maybe I’ll come in and look at it.”
