Undeveloped

It is quite different out here.  The wind blowing across the desert pelts my face with sand, making it very difficult to see anything, not to mention it stings.  As the snakes, lizards and spiders are all low to the ground, I assume they are not affected by this annoyance.

It cools off greatly at night and usually without the wind.  A bit eerie, as there isn’t any sound.  I never expected it to be this quiet.  Whenever there is a noise, I jump, wondering what caused it.  And if there isn’t a moon, it doesn’t help to look around as I can’t see 10 feet in any direction.

The boulders and cacti never say a word, as if trained soldiers standing their posts, waiting for what, I’m not sure.  I find I have to keep rearranging my tripod, as the legs slowly sink from their own weight into the sand.  I’m also wondering how much of this blowing grit is making its way into my camera.  That could prove disastrous and expensive.  This may have been a really stupid idea.

As long as I leave the images in my camera undeveloped, I’ll never see any destruction caused by this sand to the inner working of my camera.  Each shot will remain perfect in my mind, just as it was when I viewed it through the lens.  Why mess with perfection?

You need a 'night vision' lens.

This sounds like a real-life adventure from you time living in San Diego.
