Throughout history – within all cultures –
things have been in disarray, economies have wobbled on the brink of collapse,
people have starved while others have prospered and man has gazed up at the
stars while small boys have looked down watching an ant carry a bit of leaf.
Some have even read these few sentences believing I was getting to some
philosophical point. I am not. I could no sooner sum up the status of a society
as figure out the interlocking folds within a Kleenex box. However, I have
sneezed and in so doing have grabbed hastily for the next Kleenex in the
sequence; suggesting of course that I comprehend the necessity for structure,
the intelligence required for engineering and the social awkwardness
experienced when systems fail. All in all I am in awe of those around me; those
who are skilled and those lacking, the ones who are knowledgeable as well as
those who flounder. I have lived my life outside of the control group, neither
studying nor being studied. I have simply wandered through the pages of Life’s
book occasionally gleaning a modicum of understanding and yet I have no
manageable concept of the storyline. I am a seat warmer without a chair. The
orchestra is tuning up for music that will forever be foreign to me. Such is
the fate of an observer. My view of Life is simply that; a stream of images,
sounds and events passing through the same time period as myself, without a
specific unified direction but all interlocked – allowing the next event in the
sequence to pop up as needed.
